More building permits were issued in North Battleford in May than last year, but the permit values were less than 2010 numbers.
A total of 19 permits were issued for $671,100, compared to 17 for $3,095,000 in May 2010. These were the latest building permit numbers submitted to North Battleford's municipal services committee Monday by building inspector Jerry Wintonyk.
The big drop in permit values can be attributed to a big "nil" for the month of May in the categories of new dwelling and new condo units. Three new dwelling permits were issued in May 2010 for $748,000, while one new condo unit was issued for $759,000.
There was also a drop in value in the institutional alteration category. Three permits were issued for $314,600, compared to one for $1,019,000.
One new industrial permit was issued for $140,000, compared to one for $325,000 the previous year. And two commercial alterations were issued in May for $40,000 compared to one for $80,000 last year.
There were also seven residential alterations issued for $98,500 and three garage/carports issued for $60,000. Three removal/demolition permits were issued for $18,000.
Overall, 49 permits have been issued for $35,372,600 in 2011, compared to 67 issued for $29,153,500. With the exception of the removal/demolition category and the two new institutional permits issued for $31,000,000 for the theatre and aquatic centre components of the CUPlex, permit values are down across the board compared to last year.
New dwelling permits are down compared to last year with nine issued for $2,265,000 so far in 2011, compared to 16 for $3,908,000 the previous year.
