PRINCE ALBERT – Prince Albert Police have captured one of Toronto’s most wanted.
Police arrested him outside a home in the 1400 block of 28 Street East in Prince Albert at about 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 22.
The arrest was part of Prince Albert Police’s Crime Reduction Team investigation into drug trafficking. Police say they located a loaded handgun, ammunition, about 120 grams of cocaine, crack cocaine, two cell phones, and more than $12,000 in cash.
Hassan was wanted by Toronto Police in connection with an April 2021 shooting death. In July 2022, Toronto Police offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Hassan.
According to Toronto Police, two men were in a vehicle in the area of Dixon and Scarlett roads when a vehicle pulled up beside them and opened fire. The victims were hit with multiple bullets, say police. The two young men were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds and one was pronounced deceased.
Prince Albert Police say that arrangements are being made to transport Hassan back to Toronto.
From the Prince Albert arrest, Hassan is facing drug and weapons charges, including unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of the proceeds of crime, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and obstruction of a peace officer.
Hassan made his first appearance in Prince Albert court Monday and the matter was adjourned to Tuesday.
Koren Mercredi, 49, of Prince Albert was also arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of the proceeds of crime in connection with CRT investigation.
