NW students earn Lakeland awards

Several Northwest students were recognized at Lakeland College awards night ceremonies at the Vermilion campus March 8 and at the Lloydminster campus March 23.

Several Northwest students were recognized at Lakeland College awards night ceremonies at the Vermilion campus March 8 and at the Lloydminster campus March 23.

The awards recognize accomplishments in a variety of areas including academics, leadership, participation and community service.

Lindsay Bosch of Maidstone, a student in the professional accounting program, earned two awards - CGA Alberta Research and Education Foundation Scholarship and a Board of Governors Scholarship.

Financial services student Danielle Wright, also of Maidstone, earned a Scotiabank Award.

A Doug Schmit Award was earned by Amanda Weber of Meota, a university transfer student.

Turtleford student, Brenda-Lee Groenwoud, earned a Dr. Brian Larson award as a practical nurse graduate.

Simone Stilgoe of St. Walburg, a heavy oil operations technician student, earned a D. George Loxam/CS Resources Ltd. Memorial Scholarship.

Two Edam students also earned honours. Jenna-Lee Morin, university transfer student, earned a Board of Governors Scholarship. Veterinary medical assistant student Morgan Roach earned a Fund for the Future Entrance Scholarship.

Cally Tatlow of Makwa earned an Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship as a university transfer student.

During the two events, Lakeland College distributed a total of $608,000 in awards and scholarships to 633 Lakeland College students. Last fall, $36,000 was also awarded to 75 students through Lakeland College's bursary program. This amount combined with the March awards recognizes 708 student recipients to date for a combined value of $644,000 for the 2010-2011 academic year. More awards will be distributed before the end of June to round out this year's grand total.
