North Battleford has fallen short in its bid to power up rinks in the community using wind turbines.
The city was among 79 communities who applied to the SaskPower Self Generated Electricity Project for Rinks. However, reports indicate the wind turbines have been awarded to Central Butte, Eatonia, Shaunavon and Strasbourg.
At council Monday night, Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson noted all four communities that won the award were in the southern portion of the province, which has an abundance of wind.
Anderson said the combined effort from Parks and the Public Works Department resulted in a "very good and detailed submission." He told council his department intends to keep looking out for any other potential funding opportunities that might turn up in the future.
