SASKATOON — An electrical malfunction caused a multi-residential structure fire in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue Â鶹´«Ã½AV on Wednesday, July 31, which affected the living conditions of 38 individuals.
However, the property agent of the multi-unit residence assured that they had found suitable accommodations for all 38 people.
Saskatoon Fire Department dispatch received the call at 6:06 p.m. The first arriving crews saw smoke coming from the roof. The incident commander requested additional apparatus to respond.
Fire crews checked the structure and found one room with a light haze that felt slightly warmer. When they opened the ceiling, they found a fire burning in the joist space. They extinguished the fire by opening the ceiling and the floor from the suite above.
The fire investigator has deemed the fire accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction, and it originated in the concealed joist space between the ceiling and floor above.
Four suites in the multi-unit residential structure sustained damage, estimated at $150,000, in the fire. The fire was completely extinguished, and no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
