In the wake of the announcement of the awarding of the tender of the theatre component for the Credit Union CU Plex comes word of further financial support for the project.
The Raise the Roof fundraising committee has announced two more new commitments - $10,000 from First Rate Financial for the coat room, and $10,000 from the Battlefords Animal Shelter towards the administration office. The two new commitments were announced July 13.
In a statement, Kelley Bahrey of First Rate Financial said he was "very excited that the project is getting off the ground." Bahrey has long supported the multipurpose facility project and previously chaired the Raise the Roof fundraising committee before Rob Rongve and Heath Gabruch took over that role this year.
"It will be great for the community as a whole and my partner, David Dutton, and I are thrilled to be part of it," said Bahrey.
The latest commitments are in addition to $1 million from Rawlco Radio and the Dekker family for naming rights in perpetuity to the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts. As well, the Kiwanis Club of the Battlefords has made a commitment of $50,000 towards the theatre box office.
Both of those commitments were announced in June at the Raise the Roof committee's official kickoff to the CU Plex fundraising campaign.
Last week the tender for the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts was officially awarded by North Battleford city council to APM Construction Services Inc., of Prince Edward Island. It is expected that construction for the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts will commence in the coming weeks.
To this point an estimated $6.3 million has been raised in the fundraising campaign for the multipurpose facility, with naming rights accounting for $4 million. Information on how to donate can be found at www.raisetheroofbattlefords.com.
