A moose had to be destroyed after it collided with a small car near St. Gregor last week.
At 7:11 p.m. on October 25, emergency crews from Humboldt were called to what was reported as a single vehicle collision on Hwy. 5 near St. Gregor.
When they arrived at the scene, they found that a small car, a Ford Fiesta, had collided with a moose.
The car was eastbound on Hwy. 5 when it ran into a northbound moose by the LeRoy turnoff, reported Const. Shayn Olsen of the Humboldt RCMP.
The car basically went right under the moose, Olsen said.
The moose did a number on the vehicle, crumpling the roof and marking it with hoofprints.
Remarkably, the male driver suffered only facial injuries in the crash. Humboldt and District Ambulance Service took the driver to the Humboldt District Hospital for treatment.
The moose wasn't so lucky. After the collision, it ran into a nearby field, despite a broken leg. RCMP officers found the animal in the field and had to put it down because of its injuries, Olsen noted.
