Ingram-Larry
Larry Ingram is running for the Liberal party in Battlefords-Lloydminster.

SASKTODAY.ca staff reached out to the candidates in all of Saskatchewan's ridings with a universal questionnaire.
We will be publishing these results in order they were received.

Name: Larry Ingram

Age: 62

Running for: Liberal Party of Canada

Profession: Retired sheet metal worker

Currently residing in (city or neighbourhood): I live on a farm outside Turtleford, approximately one hour from North Battleford, one hour from Lloydminster and one hour from Meadow Lake.

Previous political experience: Former RM of Mervin councillor and former school board trustee.

Who is your political hero? My political hero would be JFK if I were to pick one.

What inspired you to enter the election race? I was inspired to run in this race because of how well the federal Liberal government handled COVID-19 in Canada.

What topics are most important to you in this federal election?

Topics of concern would be COVID-19, mental health, climate change and reconciliation.

Are you concerned about the short campaign timeline for this election?

The timeline is short, but that is good so less people are having to open their doors and speak to strangers.

What supports, if any, do you feel are needed to help businesses and residents with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic?

I think the CERB money and the small business loans have helped people and business to stay alive. Those programs will ensure that we are ready to get everything up and running when it is safe to do so.

What, if any, agricultural federal programs and initiatives do you feel are necessary to help support farmers and ranchers in this year's conditions?

The AgriStability and crop insurance programs are both supported 60 per cent federal and 40 per cent provincial. Most farmers and ranchers have had the foresight to have their crops and livestock insured.

How will you engage and encourage young voters to participate in this election?

There are about 60,000 voters in this constituency. Only 35,000 of them voted in the 2019 federal election. If half of the 25,000 came out to vote, that would change the election results.

Once elected, your job is to represent your entire riding. How do you plan on representing individuals who didn’t vote for you?

If elected to represent Battlefords-Lloydminster, I would continue working on reconciliation, I would continue working on environmental issues and making our farms to be less fossil-fuel required.

What local project or service would you advocate for more federal spending?

Advocating for increased federal spending for a specific project or service requires interactions with industry and the local constituents. If elected, I would have to communicate, and more so listen, to the people in our area first. It is my belief that I should listen and think first, talk second

What is something people don’t know about you?

People know that I have been a municipal councillor, a school division representative and a recording secretary with a vote at local eight sheet metal hall in Alberta.

In closing I honestly feel that I would be a good voice for this area in a federal Liberal government. There is a lot more to be accomplished when your are on the inside than when you are on the outside throwing stones.
