Meadow Lake woman sentenced to 2 years, 2 months in prison for kidnapping, robbery

Lana Aubichon, 37, will serve 830 days starting March 1

MEADOW LAKE – A woman was sentenced in Meadow Lake court today to two years and two months in prison for kidnapping two women at gunpoint.

Lana Aubichon, 37, will serve 830 days starting March 1.

Meadow Lake and Loon Lake RCMP responded to a report at about 3 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2021, that a woman was abducted at gunpoint at 1:15 a.m. from the Centre Street area in Meadow Lake and then dropped off in a rural area near Barthel. Police say she was robbed but not injured.

The woman told police that a second woman was abducted. The second woman was located later that day in Alberta. Grande Prairie RCMP received a call that a woman said she had escaped from abductors in Grande Prairie. The RCMP investigation determined that she was the second woman abducted by Aubichon.

North Battleford RCMP General Investigation Section worked with Grande Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section to arrest Aubichon. She was charged with two counts of using a firearm in a kidnapping, two counts of using a firearm during a robbery, uttering threats, and possession of a weapon while prohibited.

In April 2021, charges of robbery with a firearm, assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and uttering threats were withdrawn against Aubichon. Those charges stemmed from an incident in October 2020 when police had responded to a call at a home on the 400 block of 7 Street West in Meadow Lake that a man was robbed and assaulted. The RCMP tactical Emergency Response Team was called in to arrest Aubichon when a high-risk search warrant  was executed.
