MEADOW LAKE – A trial has been set for a Saskatoon man who allegedly shot a man in Green Lake.
On Nov. 1 in Meadow Lake Provincial Court, the trial for 28-year-old Scott Riley Maurice was scheduled for January 2022.
Maurice was denied bail last month. He was arrested after Meadow Lake RCMP were called at about 12:20 p.m. Aug. 1 for a report of a shooting at a home on Beaver Road in Green Lake. Police found a man with a gunshot wound outside the residence. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect fled in a vehicle and officers attempted to stop the driver. Police pursued the vehicle and eventually pulled it over on Highway 55.
Maurice was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unlicensed possession of a firearm, obstruction of a peace officer, and failing to comply with a demand for a breath sample.
The passenger of the vehicle, 26-year-old Marcella Esperanse, from Beardy’s First Nation, was also arrested. She was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm/weapon/ammunition in a vehicle. She was released from custody and failed to appear in court. A warrant has been issued for her arrest and she remains at large.
The charges against Maurice and Esperanse haven’t been proven in court.
Officers from the North Battleford RCMP General Investigation Section, North Battleford RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services assisted in the investigation.
