It seems everybody's getting rich but us.
Eileen Turchenek of Luseland struck her luck when she won $25,000 on a scratch and win ticket.
"I didn't think I had won a big prize at first," said Turchenek. "I had to check the ticket a few times to make sure that the symbols matched."
Turchenek purchased the lucky ticket, along with a few duds, at Julie's Cornerstore in Luseland. She plans to use her winnings to pay bills and save for retirement.
Robert and Laurie Cardinal of Lashburn will be able to do much more than pay a few bills after winning a million dollars.
Laurie bought a Lotto Max ticket from Sobey's Corner Store in Lloydminster when she noticed the jackpot was at $50 million, with an estimated 31 Maxmillions.
When she checked her ticket online, she saw she had won $20 by matching four main numbers. But an even greater surprise was in store, as she saw all the numbers on one of the Maxmillions was matching.
After announcing her win to her husband, Laurie fell to the floor. "I knew she was serious then," said Robert.
The Cardinals will put some of their winnings toward a new camper and boat, but the biggest benefit the couple will see is Robert plans to work closer to home, so he'll no longer be gone most of the year.
