An Automatic External Defibrillator(AED) presentation was held March 7 at the Blaine Haven Lodge.
Darryl Fiala, representing the Rick Lamontagne Memorial Fund, explained how the fund was established and the relevance of the AEDs.
Diana Woytiuk of Blaine Lake Ambulance Care Ltd. is a First Aid/AED/CPR instructor. She was in attendance to provide a brief yet important demonstration of a scenario if a resident or guest becomes unresponsive. She emphasized that even if an individual is not strong enough or comfortable enough with performing CPR he/she can still call 9-1-1 and retrieve the AED when requested.
Woytiuk also discussed the signs and symptoms of a heart attack/stroke and emphasized the importance of complying with any medications.
"If you do not feel right get it checked out," commented Woytiuk while encouraging the residents to look out for one another.
The evening session was well received and a CPR workshop with the residents is being considered.
Carla Lamontagne, the late Rick Lamontange's wife, was in attendance to present the AED to the lodge. She is continuously impressed with how the placement of AEDs thoughout the community are being received.
