While flood conditions are creating damage in other corners of the province, a flood of the faithful was creating more space for worship this week in Battleford. Hundreds of volunteers were put to work constructing an addition to the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall in Battleford.

The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses is undergoing some much needed renovations and additions this week after merging two congregations last year.

The Battlefords Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses' build began in early June. Concrete was poured mid June and the walls started going up Tuesday, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers.

Allan Sutherland, co-ordinator of the local building committee and local body of welders is working on this project with a large team of volunteers most of whom are trade professionals who have taken time off of regular work to help. Others have been trained on site.

"The extension on the building was definitely needed due to the increase of congregation members," explained Sutherland.

The 112 members of both North Battleford and Battleford's Jehovah's Witnesses Congregations merged last year so they were in need of more space. Sutherland said that renovations were also made to the original building.

"It was built in the '80s and needed to be updated to the current building codes."

They are also leaving room for future additions to accommodate the growing population in the Battlefords.

When asked if the rain or wind has damaged or put a stop to building, Sutherland replied, "We were prepared for Saskatchewan's unpredictable weather and worked through the rain. It didn't slow us down. We should be finished everything by Sunday, as planned."
