There are many fascinating stories to hear and exciting places to visit in the region.
Last week, Saskatchewan West Central Tourism celebrated Tourism Awareness Week with a visit to the Battlefords Goose Project and the Battlefords Wildlife Federation Nature Centre.
Vinessa Currie-Foster and Les Foster of Clearwater Canoeing offered people an opportunity to take a ride in their new voyageur canoe.
They will be sharing voyageur culture, their love of paddling and the eight-person canoe at Meadow Lake Provincial Park on Canada Day and at Fort Carlton Provincial Park on the weekends.
Foster was decked out in voyageur costume for the event while Currie-Foster explained the clothing.
While avoiding the sensitive nesting areas of the Battlefords Goose Project groups were able to relax in the voyageur canoe and listen to Currie-Foster share stories of fur trade exploits gathered from historical journals and set in the region.
Officials from Saskatchewan West Central Tourism welcomed participants and shared statistics about the effect of tourism on the local economy.
Marketing manager Owen Einsiedler explained, "Each year about one million person visits are made in the West Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region by Saskatchewan residents, other Canadians and visitors from the US and overseas. Tourism generated about $101.3 million in consumer spending in west central Saskatchewan. In Saskatchewan tourism contributes approximately $1.65 billion in total traveller expenditures annually to the provincial economy.
"So you can see it is a big business," he added.
The region is rich in history, culture, and natural beauty and there are opportunities to experience it all year long.
