NORTH BATTLEFORD - A release on electronic monitoring is now being sought for a second accused in the Jan. 3 apartment fire on the 1400 block of 102nd Street.
In provincial court Friday, defence counsel for Keeanu Crookedneck requested and was granted the preparation of a bail verification and supervision report, with instructions to canvass for electronic monitoring at a proposed place of residence.
The report was ordered by Judge Murray Pelletier. Matters have been adjourned to the next North Battleford court date of Jan. 27 at 11 a.m., for a show cause hearing. Crookedneck, whose attendance for Friday's court date was waived, is remanded in custody to the next court date.
Crookedneck faces charges of arson and arson with disregard to human life, in connection to the Jan. 3 apartment fire in North Battleford.
Co-accused, Naomi Jean Yellowtail, is also in custody with her matters due back in provincial court for a show cause hearing Jan. 26. A bail verification report is also being prepared for Yellowtail to canvass for electronic monitoring, with an update to that report recently ordered.
She also faces a charge of arson with disregard to human life. According to the Criminal Code, arson with disregard to human life carries a potential maximum sentence of life incarceration.
