Dates have been set for the preliminary hearing for Norbert Dumais, charged with drug possession, sexual assault, uttering threats and breach of undertaking.
The preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 16 to 20 in North Battleford provincial court. The trial, if needed, would be in Queen's Bench court.
Dumais appeared by video link from jail in Saskatoon during his court appearance Wednesday in North Battleford Provincial Court before Judge David Kaiser. His defence lawyer, Greg Chovin, appeared by phone and made the election of trial in Queen's Bench Court by judge and jury.
Dumais, 56, was living in Leoville when he was arrested in May by RCMP, and has been in custody since then. He is the same individual who briefly lived in North Battleford following his release in 2009 from Bowden Institution in Alberta. His location in North Battleford drew outrage within the community because of his history as a repeat sex offender.
