Sometimes crime fighting really bites - or at least, the guy you're trying to arrest does.
A Battlefords RCMP member was treated for bite wounds after responding to a fight in progress call at a local bar just after midnight Monday night.
The fight between a patron and staff member had ended before RCMP arrived, but the patron, Elvis Stone, was still there. The police officer recognized Stone, who was wanted on several outstanding warrants, and placed him under arrest.
Stone resisted arrest and bit the officer on the leg at least twice. Additional RCMP arrived to assist in restraining Stone, and the injured member was taken to hospital and treated for several serious bite wounds.
Police obtained a warrant to run a blood test on Stone to ascertain the risk to the member who was assaulted.
"Any time you break the skin, you run the risk of getting whatever the biter has," said Cpl. Jason Teniuk with the Battlefords RCMP.
Stone, 30, was charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm, remaining in a licenced premesis after being asked to leave, mischief and disturbing the peace.
