Here are some of the highlights from a May 24 meeting of North Battleford council:

City council has given its green light to submitting an application to the Main Street Saskatchewan Program. The program helps communities develop public-private initiatives to revitalize historic commercial areas. A total of four Saskatchewan communities are to be selected this year to pilot the Main Street approach, and councillors believe the City stands a good chance of being selected.

Council also endorsed an application for funding under the Saskatchewan Infrastructure Growth Initiative - Recreation Pilot Program, for financial assistance for the Credit Union CUPlex. This program provides interest rate subsidies up to five years on $12.5 million in municipal borrowing to municipalities.

Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson provided a CUPlex update as of May 18. He noted that exterior sheathing is 85 per cent complete on the second level and above of the theatre and that forming of theatre seat grade has started. Roofing is now complete on high tower roof.

His report noted the west side roofing of the aquatic centre is complete, the weeping tile in wave pool complete and exterior brick work is underway.

Council awarded the low bid for two new half-ton trucks, for the Parks and Recreation and Public Works Department, to Scott Campbell Dodge for the total price of $41,272.00, including taxes.
