Here is a rundown of some business that took place at Monday's council meeting.

The 2010 audited financial statements for the year ending Dec. 31, 2010 were presented by Barry Svenkeson of the accounting firm Holm Clements Kwong Svenkeson Raiche. Svenkeson said there were "no issues" with respect to the statements.

Several inquiries were made, but public works director Stewart Schafer noted no bids were received for the reconstruction of the waste management facility lift station. KGS Group developed the engineering drawings and tender documents, and they have been instructed to contact contractors to see who may be persuaded to submit a bid for the lift station, which would involve work replacing the pumps and controls and replacement of the structural steel, among other things.

Councillor Grace Lang asked the driving public to use caution when making U-turns in front of the Valley View Towers, to ensure the safety of seniors out walking or on their motorized scooters.

Councillor Ron Crush wanted to know what was happening with the flag corridor across from the Allen Sapp Gallery. Director of Parks and Recreation Keith Anderson told council new flag poles have come in but are not yet installed. The poles will be installed in July.

Crush also proposed a novel idea: taking attendance of those attending council meetings. He suggested putting attendance tallies and a list of boards each councillor is appointed to on the city's website. Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator Mike Halstead has indicated he will work to fulfill his request along with council and the city clerk.

Full attendance by councillors at city meetings has been an issue for the past number of years, with many instances noted of councillors being absent for various reasons.

North Battleford is approaching its 100th anniversary as a city, and Councillor Don Buglas inquired about centennial celebration planning. He suggested community and high school graduates of 2013 get involved, and city administration plans to seek guidance from other cities that have had similar events.

Finally, Councillor Ray Fox recounted a long list of events he attended in the past number of days including the annual air cadet review at Sakewew High School, the flag raising for Battlefords Tourism at City Hall and a meeting of the Safer Communities Task Force last week.
