North Battleford council was back in familiar territory Monday - lowering the boom on yet another run-down and boarded-up property.
This time, council denied the appeal of a demolition order on a residence at 951 -107th Street. There was very little debate on the resolution, as council voted unanimously to turn down the appeal. The demolition order on the residence stands.
According to a May 4 memo from building department inspector Jerry Wintonyk, the house has not been occupied since August 2005 and numerous orders for yard cleanup and for securing the building had been sent.
A bylaw officer noticed last November that the building was again not secure and that it was being used as a shelter. The RCMP were called in to remove the intruder. Later that month, following an inspection, an order for the demolition of the house and cleanup of the property was made.
The work was to have been completed by December 20, 2010. As well, taxes were in arrears to the tune of $4,059.91, according to Wintonyk's memo.
Earlier at council on Monday, the owner of the property, Nancy Fast, had asked for more time so she could be able to sell the property. She had put the property up for sale online, and had received several responses, she said.
She expressed hope a new owner could renovate and make the needed repairs to the property and requested a time frame to be able to do that.
However, in his memo to council Wintonyk recommended denying the appeal as the letter of appeal "lacks the detail of the work required to bring this building back to an acceptable standard." Council unanimously supported administration's recommendation to turn down the appeal.
