The City of North Battleford is in the process of securing a local contractor to oversee the CUPlex project.
Jim Toye, city planner, said the contractor will be responsible for supervising the field house and curling rink components.
"It's just due diligence on behalf of the City," said Toye. "It's a large facility and we want to make sure it's done properly."
The project is currently four to six weeks behind schedule, due to colder than usual weather and it is now estimated the multiplex will be completed by March 2012.
Toye said although the other two components, the theatre and aquatic centre, are being overseen by the architects, the contractor would also have a role in overseeing those components.
"An investment like $50 million, you don't take it lightly," said Toye, adding the extra set of eyes and additional walkthroughs will be helpful.
The arrangements were made necessary after the City terminated the contract of Stuart York, director of parks and recreation.
Keith Anderson, parks director, has been serving as interim director of parks and recreation until a replacement is found.
Toye said the City has received 21 applications for the director of parks and recreation position, "from all across Canada."
The application period has closed, and the City is in the process of selecting applicants for the interview process, according to Toye.
