An ordinary trip to the post office ended in an extraordinary collision between two vehicles last week
At approximately 4 p.m. on March 29, a 90-year-old Humboldt man driving a Chrysler Intrepid was attempting to park his vehicle on the street in front of the parking lot behind the post office in Humboldt. From what RCMP can tell, while attempting to park his vehicle, the driver launched the car backwards at a 90 angle, over the fence into the parking lot, and landed on top of the passenger side of a Dodge Avenger.
"He had the vehicle in reverse and didn't realize he hit the wrong pedal," said Const. Trevor Scott of the Humboldt RCMP.
There were no injuries in the crash, though the driver of the Dodge Avenger was sitting in the driver's seat at the time of the collision.
There was surprisingly little damage to the Intrepid, RCMP reported.
It took some ingenuity on the part of tow truck driver Joe Dutchak to get the vehicles apart and the Intrepid back on the ground. A second tow truck actually had to be called in to assist.
Scott stated that though no charges will be laid, SGI will be reviewing the man's licence.
