North Battleford is welcoming voluntary street entertainers and buskers to perform downtown Friday, July 29.
Steven Cormons, the event's organizer, is calling on all performers to help raise money for the Credit Union CUPlex, the Battlefords new recreation facility.
"I would like to put a challenge out there to all of the performers in the community to come out and participate in this, if not, come and contribute to the busker fund," said Steve, a seasoned musician himself.
Performances can be anything people find entertaining - acrobatics, animal tricks, balloon twisting, card tricks, caricatures, clowning, comedy, contortions, dance, singing, fire eating, fire breathing, fortune-telling, juggling, magic or miming.
Use your imagination, Cormans said.
"Street musicians and buskers, traditionally, on the street have no place to play. Well, we get a theatre. That's why I was channelling the funds that we make from this towards the theatre complex," said Cormons.
The funds raised will go to the CUOlex. The multiplex will feature a curling rink, swimming pool, performing arts centre and a field house that will house multiple sporting events, trade shows, concerts, banquets and a walking and running track.
Cormons hosts a block party every year and also expressed that the center will promote wellness in the neighbourhoods by giving the younger generation something to do and keep kids off the streets.
Donations can also be made to the official "Raising the Roof Busker Collection Pot" at the site and will be directed specifically towards the multiplex's performing arts center - the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts. The centre will provide a much-needed venue in the city to host all kinds of events.
The event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. anywhere between the library and Railway Avenue
