Laughs and legwork powered a journey over the streets of Maidstone last week.
The Heart and Stroke Big Bike has begun its annual tour of the province and on the first full day of touring outside the hub centre of Saskatoon it made stops in Paradise Hill, Marshall and Maidstone.
The Hospital Hotties welcomed the touring team of Jay Kuchirka and James Liebrecht, who were both happy to have the job for the summer and were looking forward to approximately 100 rides in more than 50 communities.
The small town competitive spirit was evident when the totals were read and it was found the Maidstone total was close to surpassing the amount raised by Paradise Hill and Marshall combined.
In Maidstone the 29 riders were hospital staff, friends and family members. Riders as young as 14 took the challenge of raising funds and showing their strength on the bike. Each rider raised at least $50 with Brandi Rhinehart leading the way at $390. Riders earned prizes to show off their accomplishments and had a great time on the bike.
They warmed up their bodies with silly songs and didn't stop smiling as people waved and showed their support as they wound their way through town. The bike catches the eye, raising awareness as it moves, stopping along the way to pick up the proceeds of the fundraiser, a total of $3,685 in Maidstone.
