The Town of Battleford has moved one step closer towards awarding the tender for a Highway 4 twinning project.

Two bids came in before the 2 p.m. deadline at town hall in Battleford Wednesday afternoon for the Highway 4 connector roadways project running from Battle River Bridge to Highway 16.

The bids were opened and tabulated by representatives from AECOM at the meeting and the unofficial numbers are as follows: G and C Asphalt, $7,488,426.70, and Whitford Construction $12,273,166.66.

The next step will be for AECOM officials to review the bids against the tender package and go over the numbers one more time to make sure they are correct and accurate. After that is complete a recommendation will be made to town council.

The tender opening was witnessed by Mayor Chris Odishaw, Town Administrator Sheryl Ballendine, and Councillor Derek Mahon. In the audience were representatives from the bidders on the contract.

Ballendine said it is likely that a special meeting of town council will be called in the next couple of weeks to deal with the tender, with councillors voting on the recommendation at that point. A special meeting is likely as the next regularly scheduled town council meeting will not be held until July 18.
