BATTLEFORD - The Town of Battleford has confirmed it will hold its National Indigenous People’s Day celebration June 16.
That was confirmed by Mayor Ames Leslie at town council’s meeting May 2.
Battleford had previously announced it was committed to hosting an event sometime during the week of June 13 to 17.
It was decided Thursday, June 16 will be the date for the day-long commemorations, with plans for entertainment, storytelling, sharing of history, as well as a fireworks display to end the day.
The indication from Town Hall was they wanted a date in advance of June 21, so as not to conflict with the other celebrations happening that day.
More details about the event are expected to be released prior to the date.
