RCMP are reminding ATV users to stay off Finlayson Island.

Through the winter, a number of complaints were made about snowmobiles tearing up protected areas and damaging ski trails.

A town bylaw prohibits the use of all off road vehicles, including snowmobiles, quads and dirt bikes, on the island.

A $75 fine is levied for a first offence, and a $150 fine for the second offence. Failure to appear in court on these charges could result in an additional $250 fine and the seizure of the ATV to be impounded for 30 days.

In severe cases, criminal charges such as mischief or obstruction of lawful enjoyment of property could also be laid.

RCMP and bylaw officers will be patrolling the area.
