Dates for a preliminary hearing are likely to be set next week in the case of a woman charged with assaulting a resident at a North Battleford group home.
Ashley Johnson, 24, faces charges of assault and of administering a noxious substance to the 20-year-old victim at a group home for those suffering severe intellectual and physical disabilities. The home, run by Battlefords Residential Services, Inc., contacted the RCMP to investigate shortly after the allegations came to light in March of this year. Johnson was working part-time at the group home when the incident took place.
In North Battleford Provincial Court Wednesday before Judge Violet Meekma lawyers for the Crown and defence agreed to adjourn the matter to July 13 at 10 a.m., mainly to allow for appropriate forms to be filed for a preliminary hearing to take place.
The Crown appeared by conference call. Johnson was not present.
It is expected that dates for a preliminary hearing will be set at next week's court appearance. No pleas have been officially entered as of yet, but defence counsel indicated in court Wednesday that Johnson was going to plead "not guilty."
