Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association 4-H Expo for 2011 came to an end Monday night after the 159th steer left the sale ring.
It was three hectic days of friendly competition, hard work and a lot of 4-H fun. Expo is one of the largest 4-H regional shows with 23 clubs participating totalling approximately 400 members and over 390 animals involved.
The fed calf sale had strong community turnout and the sale stands were filled with enthusiastic bidders. There were 159 steers that went through the ring for an average of $1.865.
The grand aggregate is awarded to the 4H Club on a total points basis. All points earned by club members for their various projects are cumulated into a club award. Topping this category was Northminster 4-H Beef Club with Lashburn 4-H Beef Club second.
Tulliby Lake 4-H Beef Club topped the barn display class awarded to the club that puts together the best visual display, keeps their area clean, and has club members on hand to answer questions and discuss their club and projects. Lone Rock 4-H Beef Club was second.
Earning display awards were: multi projects - Maidstone Gully Foods, Durness Carpentry Advanced and Maidstone Woodworking; animal projects - Durness Multi Roping, Maidstone Gully Light Horse, Durness Multi Young Horse; Clover Bud - Lone Rock 4-H, Maidstone Gully, Durness.
Beef project award winners were: Grand Champion Yearling Heifer - Jennifer Jones, Hillmond; reserve champion yearling heifer - Taylor Richards, Lashburn; grand champion cow/calf - Colton Draves, Northminster; reserve grand champion cow/calf -Ty Draves, Northminster; grand champion fed calf - Ryley Noble, Hillmond; reserve grand champion fed calf - Colton Draves, Northminster; grand champion breeder's herd - Colton Draves, Northminster; reserve champion breeder's herd - Ty Draves, Northminster.
The club judging was won by Lashburn 4-H Beef Club with Mervin 4-H Beef Club in second.
Saturday the light horse project winners were: senior - Breanna Allen; intermediate -Ashton Allen; junior - Rachel Clay; first year - Mikayla Flinn and Mackenzie Trother.
Sunday winners were: senior - Cole Weaver; intermediate - Rylan Harney and Chelsea Illingworth; junior - Shayna Noble; first year - Mikayla Flinn and Toni Sime.
Earning the light horse best barn display award was Durness Light Horse.
