Wildlife federation names Adam Mischuk master sportsman

The committee of the federation would like to thank everyone for attending this annual event. The next event will will be their annual fish fry on the Saturday before Easter.

On Spadina Crescent East in Saskatoon early morning Feb. 2, the Assante building was the scene of a fire. This proved to be catastrophic for the few business offices located in there. One office is where our son Greg is employed with Collins Barrow Chartered Accounts. He said the employees were allowed 15 minutes to get in to retrieve files to take home to work on. Their office sustained smoke damage and employees were not able to return until Feb. 7. Damage to the building is estimated at $200,000.

For four days Lorena Lafreniere visited her older sister Esther Fendelet in Innisfail, Alta. Esther and her daughter were at Lafreniere’s this past October for a one-week stay.

Margaret Adam’s granddaughters from Edmonton, 17-year-old Ireland and 20-year-old Haven Wong, certainly work hard at the sport handball. Recently, Ireland received the most valuable women’s handball award in Alberta and also the MVP award in a San Francisco, Calif. tournament. Sister Haven was named best junior coach for women in Alberta at an awards night held in Edmonton the end of December. This sport creates   interest throughout Europe and many players on Norway’s teams are actually from Canada. At present, Brazil holds the world championship.

Church service at All Saints Catholic Church in Mayfair for the months of February and March will be celebrated on Saturdays at 5 p.m.

Chickadee Songwriters Circle is the brainstorm of Doug and Louise Sylvester (nee Toews), who host musical functions on their property in North Battleford.

This past Friday they collected voluntary donation at the door and donated the money to the Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords, which is always in need of funds. The main entertainers of the night were Jay Semko of Prince Albert and Doug Sylvester and his adult son Dylan, who put on a fabulous show. Louise grew up on the Toews’ family farm south of Mayfair.

Mark your calendar for this Sunday, Feb. 12 as the Rosthern junior choral group of 36 students will put on a performance at 11 a.m. as part of a Mennonite Church service in the Rabbit Lake Hall. A hot lunch will be served after the service.
