Students introduced to lacrosse in a one-day clinic

Whether or not the groundhog saw his shadow, it looks like we will have six more weeks of winter. Students have been playing snow soccer, building snow forts and making trails in the snow for other students to follow.

Whether or not the groundhog saw his shadow, it looks like we will have six more weeks of winter. Students have been playing snow soccer, building snow forts and making trails in the snow for other students to follow. The curling teams are busy preparing for their playoffs, and the lost and found box is full of mitts.

Ten students attended a lacrosse clinic held in the gym Jan. 30. They learned about the game of lacrosse and were able to practice some of the skills.

In elementary house leagues, the teams are completing the second round of floor hockey and will soon be starting mini-basketball and ringette. There have been some close games in floor hockey and the overall team scores are close.

There are several events coming during the week of Feb. 13-17. The elementary classes will be having Valentine exchanges Feb. 14. Grades 1 through 5 will be participating in the Jump Rope For Heart event. They are currently collecting pledges for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. If you are interested in donating and you are not contacted by a student, please phone the school The jumping will occur during the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb.15.

 The school division will provide all staff lunch Feb. 15. This is Staff Appreciation Week and a board member will be bringing lunch to the staff.

Friday, Feb. 17, is the 100th day of school. This coincides with our annual Winter Olympics. The SLC members are busy planning the event now. It is a great day of indoor and outdoor activities.

Several walls in the main foyer have been painted dark blue and the trophy cabinet has been cleaned and is now displaying the latest school trophies and medals from provincial and divisional wins over the last several years. One wall displays the graduation pictures, of the graduating classes from this facility. 

 February means that a new writing trait is being taught from the Six Traits of Writing program. Krista Nickell and Kandace Walker introduced the voice trait with a new bulletin board in the commons hallway. This trait will be the focus of writing lessons during the month of February.

The annual Grades 4 through 12 ski trip to Table Mountain has been booked for Tuesday, March 14. For many students, this is the first time they will have tried skiing.
