Borden Friendship Club held their Christmas bingo Dec. 14 with 43 out to play. Winning turkeys were Marcelle Desrosiers (two), Carol Epp and Sonia Zacharias from Langham and Jean Hryniuk of Borden. The hams went home with Gerry Wainwright and Donna Metanchuk of Borden, Erin Paquin of Warman and Amber Kasahoff of Langham. The $20 cash for the blackout went to Brenna Paquin of Warman. The next cash bingo is Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at the seniors’ centre.

Radisson Royal Purple held their Christmas turkey supper meeting at the home of Roberta Harris in Radisson on Dec. 12. Donations were given of $50 each to the food hampers at Borden and Radisson for needy families, $50 donated to the Brain Injury Association of Saskatchewan and $75 to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children. The Hafford Music Festival will also receive a $50 donation in January and the lodge raffle went to the lodge. After the meeting the ladies exchanged Christmas gifts.

Borden United Church held a Blue Christmas service Dec. 16 with prayers, readings and the singing of Silent Night with Gayle Wensley leading the service and playing guitar for the carol. Coffee and fellowship was enjoyed by all attending.

Dec. 18, after regular church services, the United Church and Riverbend Fellowship Church gathered together at the Borden Community Centre for a potluck supper and program. The children from Adventure Club, which meets every Wednesday after school, put on a drama called Manger Mania with puppeteers, Mary, Joseph, shepherds, innkeeper, wise men, star and narrators telling the story of Jesus’ birth.

There was community carol singing led by Darrel Wiebe and Gayle Wensley, with Pam Pidwerbesky playing the piano. The children pantomimed, using sticks, the actions to the song, Its About the Cross. Ron Mills, pastor of Riverbend Fellowship, gave a reading of The Greatest Gift Ever. Candy bags were given to all the children and Christmas oranges for everyone courtesy of the churches. Non-perishable food was collected for the credit union and will go to needy families in the area this upcoming week.

There are no church services at any of the three churches Dec. 25 and for the Riverbend Fellowship Church only Jan. 1 at 10:45 a.m. in the seniors’ centre.

The Friendship Club has their last potluck supper for 2016 on Dec. 28, celebrating birthdays and featuring local talent.

Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and all the best for 2017.
