In like a lion and out like a lamb, well that is how it is supposed to be in the month of March. Soon the local snowbirds should be returning. I think we have beat winter for another year.
Since my wife and I have been among those snowbirds this winter, I am just getting back into gear with many things, reporting being one of them. Thanks to those who have emailed or called me to ask when I would be doing Rabbit Lake news again. I have been surprised at how many people from a distance away read the old hometown happenings.

The Rabbit Lake branch of the Lakeland Library will hold its meeting April 11. The library has posted new hours of operation. They are now 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.
There are upcoming meetings for the Rabbit Lake Community Hall April 5, the Rabbit Lake Agricultural Association on April 3 and the Rabbit Lake Museum on May 1.
March 4 was a busy day in Rabbit Lake. Once again the Rabbit Lake and District Agricultural Association held its annual snow machine rally. About 260 riders took to the trails and had a great day.
Obviously the trails had been better in years when there was more snow, but for many riders this was a first opportunity to be in any snow at all. Of course it snowed a nice bit after the rally was over.Â
The day began with a full breakfast put on by the Rabbit Lake Museum and the Rabbit Lake Library. After the riders returned they enjoyed a roast beef supper and the prize draws.
Irene Loiscelle of Rabbit Lake and Ed Anderson won new snow machine helmets that had been donated as prizes in addition to many, many more.
The cash prize winners were $5,000 to Sisonh Rathamone of Meadow Lake, $2,500 to Matthew Ruzesky of Shellbrook and $1,250 to Jack and Julie Scott of Mullingar. Rider prizes were $500 to Murray Bren of Saskatoon and $500 to Amy Herbert of Martensville. Ticket seller prizes of $100 each went to the Sherman/Hrynewich/McLennan trio, Susan Doell, Karen Kuffert, Mary MacDonald and Dennis Allchurch. In addition the 50-50 draw granted Shane Murdock of North Battleford $950.
All it all it was a grand day and the committee looks forward to doing it again next year.
For almost a year now the Rabbit Lake Senior Sunrise Circle has been bringing in musical performers for the community to enjoy. The next one is on March 24 with Saskia and Darrel.
April 22 the Rabbit Lake Community Hall board will be hosting the spring supper. This will be a good time to enjoy some home cooked food and community visiting before spring fieldwork begins again.
