The heavy snowfall in southern Alberta and British Columbia caused a lot of travel problems. With the curling on at Banff, there were lots of people out that way. Roads were closed for a time and flights were cancelled, too.聽
Life in the oilpatch in this area seems to be active still, as more building of steam plants is going on. One is going up southwest of Meota and another is planned for the Spruce Lake area north of Turtleford. It all helps keep small towns alive, especially in the winter time when the tourists are somewhere else and many of our folks are being tourists in warmer places.
Contract bridge was played Monday evening with top score by Linda Ard. Second high was Eric Callbeck, same as last week.

A misunderstanding from reading Brian Zinchuk鈥檚 column about the Staples store in Estevan closing had many asking, 鈥淚s Staples in North Battleford closed?鈥 A phone call assured me that, no, it is not closed. Also a red blurb on the computer last Thursday said Sallows and MacDonald鈥檚 Funeral Home was closed. Again a phone call assured me that was not so and the message had been removed by Monday.
Friday evening five tables of trump whist were played in the Vawn hall. They are hoping to play every second week, keep their hall open and keep an old custom alive. They are having dancing lessons there as well, so that helps keep the place warm when it鈥檚 used more often. Top score for ladies went to Dora Greening and for men to Jack Stewart. Travelling prize for ladies went to Dora and for men to George Stewart. It was another friendly social evening with young and old enjoying this old card game and lunch after.
Meota was a busy place Saturday when folks from near and far came to attend the funeral for Helen Clarke. It was a full house and very sad, as all funerals are. Her husband Larry has lived here all his life and they were active in the community. Helen was a Spiritwood girl whose parents were also active community workers for many years. They were well-known folks and the attendance proved they were highly respected and loved.
Facebook pictures show my daughter and her cousin in New Zealand found some muddy places to ride a buggy (called a quad here) at Rarotoga. They looked like they were ready for the shower and laundromat.
