Earth Day activities cancelled due to mother nature

Saturday, April 22, was Earth Day around the world. The elementary students had planned to do their annual yard cleanup, but due to the rain and snowfall, the cleanup was postponed.

The recent snowfall also put a damper on the high school’s track and field practices. Hopefully, these can start again next week.

Badminton season has concluded. Both age categories, junior and senior, attended their conference playoffs in North Battleford last week. There was some extremely strong competition, but none of the teams advanced to the district level.

Thanks to Mrs. Brehon and Mrs. Walker for coaching the teams this year. Also thanks to Mr. Nickell for helping with some of the practices. Special thanks to the parents who were able to drive the students to their playoffs.

As a windup to their season, Mrs. Brehon purchased pizzas and the junior players were treated to an end of season lunch.

Christine Combres received flowers from the staff in recognition of Administrative Assistant Day. It was in appreciation for all the work she does at school. Mrs. Heather Cardin also received flowers from the staff to celebrate the birth of her first grandchild.

Last weekend, Taylor Gray, Jenna Fouhy and Michelle Garrett, Grade 10 students, participated in the SVA 16U girls’ volleyball provincials.

These were held between two venues in Saskatoon and Warman. Jason and Krista Gray have been coaching this club team.

The Maymont dance club concluded their season with a recital at Maymont School Sunday, April 30. Mrs. Jean Brehon was the M.C. for the afternoon.

In total, 26 solos, duets and group dances were performed before the finale. All the dancers performed very well and won many awards at their competitions this year. Best wishes to Kayla Gray, Kassidy Menzies, Cassidy Serhienko, and Audrey Friesen who have completed their time with the Maymont dance club. They have provided many years of entertainment with their dancing skills and they will be missed.

The school will be closed on Monday, May 8, for a Professional Development Day.
