Saskatchewan will acknowledge and celebrate the work of the professionals who develop, promote and make the archives in our province accessible to the public by declaring Feb. 5 to 11 as Archives Week in the province.
The City of North Battleford Historic Archives will participate by setting up a display at Discovery Co-op鈥檚 Territorial Place Mall in North Battleford on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m
The focus of the archives鈥 ninth annual display is 鈥淐orner Stores in North Battleford from 1905 to 1980.鈥
The display will include approximately 50 interactive display boards and maps showing the locations and owners of these valuable businesses in the community.聽
鈥淲e are very excited to present this display to the public. We are certain that it will be a great source of discussion with our visitors,鈥 says archivist Tammy Donahue Buziak.
鈥淚鈥檓 pleased to recognize our provincial community of professional archivists whose work enables people to explore our collective past,鈥 minister responsible for the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan Christine Tell said.聽
鈥淚 encourage everyone to take part in the events and exhibits taking place during Archives Week.鈥
Archives Week is celebrated annually during the first full week in February, and is organized by the Saskatchewan Council for Archives and Archivists and the more than 50 established archival institutions within Saskatchewan that it represents in the Canadian archival system.
鈥淩emembering our past is important for present and future generations,鈥 SCAA Executive Director Sandy Doran said. 鈥淥ver the past 11 years, Archives Week has provided the people of Saskatchewan a fun and informal way to look back on significant pieces of history relevant to our province.鈥
Other Archives Week events will take place in Regina, Saskatoon, Humboldt, La Ronge, St. Isidore de Bellevue, Whitewood, Lloydminster and Melfort.
Archives Week not only brings awareness to the significant contributions archivists make to our province, but also serves as a time for us to celebrate the history of Saskatchewan as a community.
