REGINA - Regina Airport Authority has given its latest update in the aftermath of the death of a construction worker during the YQR Regina airport runway rehabilitation project.

Airport CEO James Bogusz has issued a statement Wednesday providing details on where things currently stand. Here are the details from that news release:

Federal and provincial Occupational Health and Safety Inspectors have completed the on-site portion of the investigation. There are some follow up interviews on-going.

The contractor PCL is continuing their own internal investigation.

A soft restart to the runway project occurred Monday. But Bogusz states that the primary focus is on the people involved and ensuring supports were being utilized by those impacted.

As of Tuesday, the project is now beginning to ramp back up.

At this time, those involved have not released personal or identifying information from the worker who passed away.

At all times, those involved with the situation have been provided full support as well as opportunities for crisis counselling and related discussion.

The incident happened at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26, in which a serious accident occurred involving a construction worker on airport property. The incident was related to the major project to rehabilitate the main runway at Regina International Airport.

Runway construction was halted over the weekend, and there were no disruptions to airport operations or flights expected.
