SASKATOON - Labour leaders are calling on Saskatchewan Party MLAs to vote against the Parents Bill of Rights legislation before the Legislature.
Speaking in front of Minister Gord Wyant’s Saskatoon constituency office, Saskatchewan Federation of Labour President Lori Johb and SEIU-West President Barb Cape called Wyant and his fellow MLAs to vote against what they describe in a news release as “Scott Moe’s Charter-trampling Notwithstanding Clause bill.”
“What Scott Moe is doing isn’t just desperate, it’s dangerous,” said Johb in a news release. “Seven-in-ten Saskatchewan people think Scott Moe is wrong to use the Notwithstanding Clause like this.”
Both labour leaders are calling on the province to focus on affordability issues instead.
“People are struggling to make ends meet,” Cape said in a statement. “Our premier is hell-bent on ignoring the real issues the people of this province want fixed and playing politics with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.’”
Second reading of Bill 137- The Parents Bill of Rights Act is currently under way at the Saskatchewan Legislature.
