Regina names new Chief of Police

REGINA - Regina Police Service has found its new Chief of Police.

He is Farooq Hassan Sheikh, who will take over as the 19th chief of Regina Police Service on Dec. 1. He assumes the role after the retirement of Evan Bray earlier this year.

According to the news release from Regina Board of Police Commissioners, Sheikh comes to Regina Police Service from the Alberta Sheriff’s Service where he held the position of Chief since 2021, leading a service of over one thousand employees who perform a wide range of law enforcement duties.

Before that, he has over 31 years experience in law enforcement including senior leadership roles with the London Metropolitan Police and also West Midlands Police, and he has also served with the police services in Calgary and Central Saanich.

Sheikh was chosen following a five month nationwide recruitment process by Regina Board of Police Commissioners.

“Chief Sheikh is honoured to be serving the citizens of Regina, and leading the incredible employees of the Regina Police Service,” said Jada Yee, Board Chair, in a statement Tuesday. “His extensive work with diverse communities and his passion for collaboration will serve our city well.”
