REGINA - A tentative deal has been reached to end the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation strike.
The province has issued a statement shortly before 6:30 p.m. that the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation and the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee reached a tentative agreement. STF has agreed to take the offer to its membership for ratification.
According to the statement from Don Hoium, Chair of the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee: "The tentative agreement includes a three-year term, providing stability to the education sector, enhancements to teachers’ benefits package, and inclusion of an accountability framework in the agreement.
"The GTBC feels this is a fair and reasonable agreement that will benefit Saskatchewan students, teachers, and families."
The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation also confirmed that after what they described as "two days of difficult negotiations," the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee, along with the STF Executive, will bring the final offer to STF members for a vote.
According to STF, the final offer includes a three-year agreement; salary increases of three percent in year one, three percent in year two and two percent in year three with retroactive pay to September 2023; and reference to the accountability framework in relation to a Memorandum of Understanding among the three parties.
STF President Samantha Becotte is scheduled to hold a media availability Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. to provide an update.
