Unity Bakery celebrated its grand opening, with an open house featuring free coffee, donuts and samples of speciality breads. Owner Kurt Larsen was assisted by staff Mrs. Irene Knoke, Mrs. Laurie Gerein, Miss Debbie Dancer and Miss Karen Holtorf.
Local piano students receiving first class honours on their Toronto Conservatory of Music exams were Terry McLain of Cut Knife, Betty Lou Bertoia of Baldwinton and Diane Ashing and Heather Diehl of Unity.
Fred Lengert, STC bus driver of the Saskatoon-Biggar-Wilkie-Unity route, was awarded three weeks extra holidays with pay for completing 25 years and a million miles of accident-free driving.
Fred Fischer of Unity was appointed local depot manager for the Dairy Producers Co-operative.

The legs under a 93,000 Imperial gallon brine tank at the Sifto salt plant collapsed, tipping the tank over. There were no injuries but production was halted for a few days. Due to the size of the tank, it had to be cut into pieces in order to be removed from the site.
The original Victory Motors service garage in Wilkie was demolished in order to make room for Wilkie Ford’s new facility.
Taylor Wallace was named UCHS Warrior football team Defensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player, and also won the Heart and Soul Award.
The Wilkie & District Health Foundation purchased a digital chair scale for the health centre so staff could accurately weigh non-mobile residents unable to stand on a regular scale.
