UNITY – Unity resident Annie Riess has always had a flair for writing and has finally published her first book.

Teach Me to Pray: True Stories of Incredible Answers to Prayer is the title of Riess’ first publication, which she has been working on for the past two years. She initially started writing the short chapter book for her grandchildren during the COVID-19 outbreak, a time she says she felt the world was losing all hope.

“The world was so negative during the pandemic and I wanted to share a bit of hope to the youth by sharing stories of when prayer was an important part of my children’s growing up,” says the author.

Riess’ book is a compilation of stories from over the years of teaching her own two children to pray, using prayer to help them in difficult times and seeing how things turned out after prayers were listened to.

“Even if the outcome wasn’t what they wanted, my children still learnt valuable lessons,” says Riess.

Riess’ daughter, Janelle Ajayi, says she recalls her mom collecting stories over the years and is proud of her mother’s accomplishment.

“She has always been a selfless woman and this book shows just how motivated she is to share her life stories to help others when struggling in their own lives,” says Ajayi.

Teach Me to Pray was published by Word Alive Press, a Christian publishing firm out of Winnipeg, Man. Riess has plans to do a book signing once copies are available and is looking into having the publication available locally.

The book will be also available at select bookstores and on Amazon.ca for $12.99.
