WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 85 calls for service during the period of July 24-30, resulting in a total of 15 charges. Of the charges, 10 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, three under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and two under the Vehicle Equipment Regulations (VER). Of the 10 criminal charges, three were in relation to individuals who either failed to attend court as required, or failed to comply with a condition of their release. Warrants were issued for the arrest of the individuals who failed to attend court as required.

On Wednesday afternoon, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision involving minor injuries. EMS and Fire personnel also responded and both vehicles required towing from the scene. The driver of one of the vehicles was charged for disobeying a traffic light.

On Wednesday evening, officers responded to a reported assault at a licensed establishment. Officers spoke to several people present and learned that an adult female had assaulted another adult female, and also used her vehicle in an aggressive manner against the other female. No injuries resulted but the assaultive female was arrested, charged accordingly, and released on conditions with an upcoming court date.

In the very early hours of Saturday morning, officers on patrol noticed two individuals out walking and identified them as having outstanding warrants for their arrest. Both individuals were arrested and released with upcoming court dates. Officers were suspicious of what the individuals may have been up to, but patrols of the area were negative for any signs of recent criminal behaviour.

In the very early hours of Sunday, two separate traffic stops conducted by officers on patrol resulted in charges. One traffic stop involved a vehicle with a burnt-out headlight. The adult female driver was found to be breaching a condition of her release and was charged accordingly. The other traffic stop involved a vehicle that was exceeding the speed limit. The adult female driver was found to be a prohibited driver and also displayed signs of impairment. Further investigation resulted in the driver being charged for impaired driving as well as for driving while prohibited.

The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
