WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service responded to 78 calls for service during the period of July 10 to July 16, resulting in a total of 21 charges. Of the charges, six were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, 8 under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), four under the City of Weyburn bylaws, and three under other provincial Acts or Regulations.

Of the 21 charges resulting from the week, three were in relation to individuals who either failed to attend court as required, or failed to comply with a condition of their release.

An officer responding to a reported unsafe load on a trailer being pulled by a truck entering Weyburn, located the vehicle and discovered one of the individuals involved had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The individual resisted the officer during the arrest but was taken into custody and subsequently charged with several offences. Charges against the adult male include failing to comply with a probation order, resisting arrest, and possessing illegal tobacco.

Police were called to an altercation between an individual and several others at a local food outlet. The altercation was not physical and officers were able to mediate the situation with the parties going their separate ways.

Officers attended a local care facility to assist staff with an aggressive resident. Officers were able to help de-escalate the individual and resolve the situation without further incident.

The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
