REGINA – A drive by shooting saw police on the 2000 block of Broad Street early Saturday morning.
At around 12:30 a.m., a silver Mazda CX7 opened fire on another driver sitting in their vehicle.
“The Mazda CX7 had clipped another vehicle during the incident and sustained damage to the rear passenger door and fled the area,” said RPS in a media release.
Early Sunday evening, an off-duty officer noticed the suspect vehicle, leading to the RPS Stolen Auto Unit getting involved. Through their surveillance, police watched the driver of the suspect vehicle enter and exit a store in the 400 block of Albert Street North. He was then taken into custody without incident.
“A female passenger was arrested out of the Mazda CX7 - which was confirmed to be a stolen vehicle - reported stolen in Regina on March 22,” RPS said. “Search of the stolen vehicle, incident to arrest resulted in the discovery and seizure of a loaded .22 caliber rifle.”
Delmont Asapace, 28, and Jade Lynn Keepness, 26, were charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and carry concealed weapon.
Asapace was further charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, careless storage of a firearm, prohibited possession contrary to an order, drive while prohibited, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Keepness was also further charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of identity documents.
The pair are scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on these charges later today.
Police are still investigating the drive by shooting, and no charges have been laid thus far in the incident. Information that could assist police in their investigation can be called in to RPS at (306) 777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
