REGINA – A routine traffic stop turned into weapons charges yesterday, and the driver arrested.
Just before 9:30 a.m. on May 4, police noticed a vehicle on Halifax Street that was registered to a suspended driver.
"Police performed a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, informing him that he was a suspended driver and his vehicle was to be impounded," said RPS in a media release. "The driver relinquished his keys and he and his passengers exited the vehicle."
When those in the vehicle exited, police noticed ammunition in pain view -something the driver was also not supposed to have under a court order. This also prompted a search of the vehicle, which yielded more ammo, a knife and a firearam.
Kolton Wayne Barr, 28, of Regina was arrested and charged with two counts possession of firearms/ammunition contrary to a prohibition order; and single charges unauthorized possession of a firearm, failure to comply with a condition of a release order, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
He made a first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on these charges today.
