REGINA – A 20-year-old man appeared in Regina Provincial Court today after a wild police arrest, including the deployment of a Taser.
Jordan Thomas Mantee made a first appearance on a set of eight charges, including three counts of prohibited possession contrary to an order; and single counts assault, resist arrest, assault a peace officer, careless storage of a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 11:30 a.m. on May 3, which noted police dispatched to the 600 block of Athol Street for a call of assault.
"When police arrived on scene, the male suspect was standing on a deck outside his residence and police learned he had a loaded firearm in the house," said RPS in a media release. "Officers attempted to arrest the male before he could get back into the residence, resulting in the male attempting to strike an officer."
According to police, Mantee then jumped off the deck, and on officer deployed the Taser, which was not effective. Mantee was able to be brought into custody, and police found a loaded shotgun in the residence after an investigation.
The Crown was ultimately opposed to Mantee's release from custody, and his next appearance on these matters will be on May 9.
