Suspicious vehicle leads to three arrests in Regina

Police use aerial unit to track suspects.

REGINA – Police proved once again that suspects can’t evade their “eyes in the sky.”

Last night, around 11:20 p.m., police noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Pasqua Street and Third Avenue. When they tried to initiate a traffic stop, the driver drove away.

The vehicle was tracked by the  to Bird Bay, where police used thermal imaging via the high resolution camera to observe the three occupants exit,” said RPS in a media release. “Police were also able to observe a bag being thrown onto a roof by one of the occupants, which was later recovered and searched.”

The three suspects were followed by the ASU, noting them walking through a green space to Reibling Bay where they hid.

Police then set up a perimeter around the area, arresting one man while the others refused to come out of their hiding place. One of the pair in hiding incurred a bite from a police service dog, and was taken to hospital for treatment of his wounds,

A search yielded stolen identity documents, as well as ammunition,” RPS said.

Rodger King, 51, is charged with resisting arrest, flight from police officer, and failure to comply.

Cheyanne Marie Lynn Laferte, 29, is charged with two counts identity fraud; and single counts obstruct police officer and failure to comply.

Keith Campbell Schell, 33, is charged with four counts each theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and identity fraud; plus two counts possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

King and Schell will make their first appearance in Regina Provincial Court this afternoon, while Laferte was released on an undertaking, making her first appearance on Sept. 21.
