SASKATOON – Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section officers have charged a 19-year-old man with the first-degree murder of 30-year-old Angose Standingwater. A 21-year-old woman has also been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Both Oceana Raven Cantre and Ashton Lee Wolfe were arrested in Saskatoon on Aug. 1 without incident and appeared in court Aug. 2.
Angose Standingwater’s mother sat outside the Saskatoon Provincial Court house Wednesday morning crying after the two accused of killing her son made their first appearance. She described their appearance as “emotional.”
“I’m sitting in the truck here in Saskatoon bawling my eyes out,” she told SASKTODAY.ca through Facebook messenger.
“I prayed for the investigators every day,” she added.
Lorrinda said that "the Goose led the way" into court Wednesday. That was Angose Standingwater's nickname.
Angose Standing water was the oldest of Lorrinda's 11 children and said that all of his siblings are "just emotional today."
Lorrinda said she realizes it's a "long road ahead" with the court process but added, "It's a good and sad day and Justice for Goose."
Standingwater was killed at a business in the 3000 block of Clarence Avenue Â鶹´«Ã½AV. Police had received a report at approximately 10:57 p.m. May 20 that a man was suffering from a serious injury. He died at the scene.
Standingwater was from Thunderchild First Nation but grew up on Poundmaker Cree Nation. At Pow Wows he participated in Grass Dances and sang with Young Thunder, when he could, said Lorrinda.
“He loved hand drumming and singing even at home here,” said his mother Lorrinda.
He also enjoyed playing soccer and basketball.
Standingwater had his Class 1 truck driver’s license and drove semi-truck for Thunder Farms out of the Turtleford area. His nickname was Goose.
Standingwater was a father of five children, two girls and three boys, said Lorrinda. He was also the oldest brother of 11 children.
“He left a lot of brothers and sisters,” she said, adding that he was the best uncle to his nieces and nephews.
“He always made everyone laugh.”
