SASKATOON – Police say 30-year-old Angose Standingwater was killed Saturday night at a business in the 3000 block of Clarence Avenue Â鶹´«Ã½AV and Saskatoon police are investigating. Police say that at about 10:57 p.m. on May 20 they got a call about a man suffering from a serious injury.
When officers arrived, they found Standingwater with life threatening injuries and despite lifesaving efforts by the Saskatoon Fire Department and Medavie Health Services West, he died.
Saskatoon police wouldn't identify the location of the murder but an Alberta man staying across the street at the Four Points Hotel told SASKTODAY.ca that he called Boston Pizza and they told him they had to close early. Their sign says they are open until 1 a.m. He said that he saw four to five police cars, a fire truck, and an ambulance in the parking lot at Boston Pizza.
The man, who didn't want to give his name, said that the entire parking lot in front of Boston Pizza and the nearby businesses up to Subway were cordoned off with pylons and police tape. What looked like police tape was on one end of the Subway restaurant outside at the end of the business block. A trail of fresh blood led from Boston Pizza's entrance to the middle area of the end of the parking lot not far from Subway.
A Boston Pizza employee opening up the restaurant at 11 a.m. Sunday morning, said she "couldn't talk about it," when asked about the murder the night before.
The Alberta man said that the police vehicles were still there when he went to bed around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning. He said everyone was evacuated out of the restaurant from a side door.
The Stonebridge area is a newer more upscale section of the city and a group of seniors having coffee in nearby A &W Sunday morning said they were surprised to hear that there was a murder in the neighbourhood, adding, "I guess it can happen anywhere."
Employees at nearby Tim Hortons, a gym, Walmart, and A & W arriving at work Sunday morning said they weren't aware of the murder the night before.
Patrol officers, as well as members of the Forensic Identification Section and the Major Crime Section, are investigating.
